The agreement
These terms are between you (and the business you sign up for) and [LEGAL ENTITY], [LEGAL ENTITY ADDRESS]. By creating an account you accept them and our Privacy policy. If you sign up for a business, you confirm you may accept them for it.
What Langford is
Langford hosts business apps built on open-source software and runs them for you. "Tested" means the app worked for us on the date shown. It is not a security audit.
Each app is open-source software under its own licence, and its names and logos belong to their owners. Where we say an app is free to use for your business, that is our reading of its licence, not legal advice.
Data you may not put in
Langford is not for protected health information (PHI) today. Do not put patient health records or other PHI into Langford, or into an app you launch from it. We will offer that only once business associate agreements are in place with Microsoft, which hosts the service, and with you.
Review note: app_instance.data_class allows only 'none' and 'pii'; the launch flow offers no PHI option (scripts/check.mjs checks this). No BAA is signed yet.
Do not put payment card numbers into a free-trial app.
Review note: CONTROLS.md FILES says trials hold no health or card data; the WAF that card data needs is not built (CONTROLS.md WAF: gap).
Your account
Use a real email address you can receive mail at, keep your password and authenticator to yourself, and tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account. You decide who joins your workspace and their roles, and you are responsible for what they do in it.
Free for 3 months
Free for 3 months. No card. The free period includes: 1 app; small size; it sleeps when nobody is using it; up to about 1 GB of records and 1 GB of files; a fair-use limit on traffic.
Your app is free for 90 days (3 months), with no card. On day 90 it pauses: it stops taking visits, and its data is kept for 14 more days so you can upgrade. If you have not upgraded by then, on day 104 we delete the app and its data: its database, its files and its documents.
Review note: The pause and delete dates are set when the app launches (app_instance.trial_ends_at, purge_at). The scheduled job that pauses and deletes on those dates is not built yet (config.ts: 'the lifecycle job ... is phase 4'); today a pause or delete is a staff action. Make it automatic, or soften this wording, before this goes live.
Paid plans start after your free 3 months. Prices and their terms are not set yet; we will show them before you can choose one, and we will not charge you unless you choose a paid plan.
Review note: config.ts: 'The price after day 90 is not set'. There is no payment code.
Your data
What you put into your apps stays yours. You allow us to store, copy and process it only as needed to run the service for you. Export what you want to keep before your free period ends; most apps have their own export.
Review note: No Langford-level export exists (DISPOSAL: designed). Whether each app can export is per app, not checked here.
We handle personal information as our Privacy policy describes.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to break the law, store content you have no right to, send spam, attack or probe our systems or anyone else's, get around the limits of your plan, or resell the service without our written agreement. We may pause an app that does any of these, and will tell you why.
Review note: Pausing exists as a staff action (worker/jobs.ts pause); the reasons are policy for the lawyer.
Security and regulations
We run the infrastructure under the security controls we publish for each app. They help you meet the security requirements that apply to your business, and our controls map to common frameworks, but you remain responsible for how you use your apps and for your own obligations.
Availability
During the free period an app sleeps when nobody is using it and wakes on the next visit, and there is a fair-use limit on traffic. We take backups, but we do not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Ending
You can stop using Langford at any time. We may end or suspend an account that breaks these terms. When an app is deleted, its data is deleted as our Privacy policy describes.
Warranties and liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. [LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: for the lawyer to draft.]
Review note: Left for the lawyer.
Law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW]. If we change them we will post the new version here with its date, and tell account owners by email before a change that matters. Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL].
Review note: Governing law and notice of changes are for the lawyer; there is no email template for terms changes yet.
